We bend so we don’t break
Move with me to discover your state of grace.
“It’s not the fall that counts, it’s the landing” La Haine
Welcome to States of Grace. Life moves fast. We are juggling responsibilities, distractions and interruptions, often while holding our breath and physically bracing for the next demand. Over time this stress builds up in our bodies, leaving us overwhelmed, anxious and exhausted. Our nervous systems were not designed to stay in survival mode for long periods of time.
If this is how you are feeling then you have found the right place. Through yoga, mindful movement and breathwork we can reset our nervous systems, release tension and build both physical and emotional resilience. Engaging in yoga and mindful movement is not about avoiding stressors; it’s about learning to move through moments of stress with more ease and grace. It is about finding flexibility - not just in the body but also in the mind and the nervous system. When we move our bodies in a safe way, we are practising handling small amounts of stress and this creates resilience in our system so that the next time we find ourselves in the middle of a storm, our nervous system is better equipped to react from a place of calm intentionality. With regular practice we can move from surviving to flourishing.
I would love to help you on this journey. Let’s move, breathe and restore balance together to find your State of Grace.
A little about me; I studied Psychology at the University of Bristol and then after a time working in media, I worked for the NHS in its emergency psychiatric unit, and then with young adults (18-30) with first time psychosis. As a lover of the art forms, I went on to study at IATE (institute for arts in therapy and education), learning how to use the 7 art forms therapeutically. At this time I started to fall in love with yoga. I was drawn to a Vinyasa flow class with incredible music. After every class I felt so alive. After my first 200hr teacher training in vinyasa flow yoga, I went to California to study to be a children’s yoga teacher. In 2021, I had the opportunity to complete a 300 hr yoga psychology teacher training. This was a dream for me to combine my two passions. I feel very deeply from my own experience how yoga has the power to transform us both physically and emotionally. We need to move our bodies in order to release patterns of held stress and find spaciousness and flexibility in our bodies, minds and nervous systems. This flexibility is our resilience and our strength.
I am a mother of three. A lover of people and stories, movement, music, art and community.
My belief in starting States of Grace is that whatever life throws at us, we can find our own State of Grace to meet the challenge and offer this energy out into the world. With practice we can ensure that the way we land says more about us than any fall or stumble.
